50 years ago — Mexican and United States military units will march together in a parade in Calexico as Calexico's new National Guard armory officially is dedicated. The units will parade from the border to the armory on Sheridan Street between Ollie and Harold avenues.

40 years ago — Ouch! What was that? Well, it might have been a black widow spider attacking, since a reported increase may be attributed to a late summer or early fall hatching of white black widow spider eggs. Pest control officials said they have had many calls in the past two weeks to exterminate black widows.

30 years ago — The 1970 Brawley Cattle Call queen contest proved so popular four of the seven entries in this year's contest have decided to "give it that one more try." The coronation will be Oct. 2 in the Imperial Valley Country Club near Holtville.

20 years ago — For the Calexico Bulldogs everything came in twos in Friday's game against Imperial. The Bulldogs scored two touchdowns in quarter number two to notch their second win in as many games (if you count last week's opening scrimmage against Palo Verde as a game).
