We would like to say how wonderful the candle-lighting ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday at the Brawley Plaza was. It is times like this that makes a person really feel glad that they are a citizen of the United States.
Congratulations to Nicole Gilles, the director of the Chamber of Commerce and her staff for putting this ceremony together. With less than 24 hours from the time she received information that a candle-lighting vigil was to take place all over the United States, she went to work. She had prayers from several ministers and priests and beautiful music.
I think the highlight of the evening was when all of the veterans, officers and firemen went up on the stage as "Taps" was being played. The veterans looked so impressive with their uniforms on, decorated with their medals and pins.
You cannot believe how it looked to see all the people who were there with their candles lit singing "God Bless America." It was breathtaking.
