Voice: Diamond lanes are carpool lanes, not bike lanes

September 21, 2001

I could see where some people in this valley might think Bret Kofford is full of baloney or something more vile than processed meat. But to suggest that he douses himself in eau de Oscar Mayer to attract the saliva-laden attention of his dogs is not only a disgusting thought, it is a low blow.

I am sorry that Bret has to endure "the man you love to hate" campaign. I took one look at that ad and could see the uncomfortable thoughts behind those dogs' adoring eyes. My advice to him would be to just grin (or growl) and bear it.

What is going to make Bret Kofford appreciated by his many detractors? I don't know. But I do know that he cares enough about this community to put himself out on a limb to poke at the Valley's good bad, or ugly foibles in order to entertain us and make us think. Few are willing to step up to that plate. Bret does it every Wednesday.

OK, so he is a little masochistic. But I know that I am not alone in saying that his column is what gets me through hump day and fully into the slide toward the weekend.

Thank you Bret, for keeping me amused, informed and thinking.
