PMH board agrees to an independent, but limited, contract with Heckathorne

BRAWLEY — The Pioneers Memorial Hospital District board agreed Monday to enter into a contract not to exceed three months with Chief Financial Officer Daniel Heckathorne while a replacement for Heckathorne is found.

At its meeting Monday, the board voted 4-0 to enter into an independent contract with Heckathorne for three months or until a new CFO is found.

Heckathorne had been an employee of Ore.,-based Brim Healthcare Inc., which had managed the hospital for 15 years until its contract was ended by the Pioneers board earlier this year. Heckathorne has been with the hospital for about the same amount of time.

A clause in Heckathorne's contract with Brim prevented him from continuing with the hospital if Brim was no longer the Pioneers' management firm.

However, about a month ago Heckathorne was released from his contract by Brim.

Heckathorne's independent contract with the hospital will start right after his current contract ends Sunday.

Trustee Leo Haggarty said the hospital finance committee is reviewing five candidates for the CFO position, picked from 15 applicants.

Haggarty said of those five, he is hoping the field will be narrowed to two by the next hospital board meeting.

"It's in the weeding process," said Haggarty.
