Once again the Imperial Valley has shown its spirit, strength and commitment to the American way of life.
On Sept. 22, just 11 days after the terrorist attack and a week of unprecedented stock market losses, literally someone from every city in the Valley participated in the 35th annual Brawley Boys and Girls Club Combo Auction. Over $22,000 was raised, money that will enable Judy Chilcott, her staff and the board to continue providing our local youth with programs that will ensure the future of this great country.
I wish to thank Benny Derrick of El Centro for donating his auctioneer services and the over 125 donors, bidders and volunteers who made the auction such a success, especially Craig Elmore of Brawley, who for years has been an auction spotter with a flair for fun that is bar none. This year was no exception, Thank you, Craig.
I would like to extend best wishes to the 2002 chairperson, Patty Russell. I'm sure the Valley will embrace her efforts as they did mine.
