El Centro police arrested a 33-year-old El Centro man for intentionally sideswiping another vehicle.

Sgt. Mike Crankshaw said Warren Randy Smith sideswiped a vehicle with his own car about 10:40 p.m. Thursday that was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Imperial and Hamilton avenues.

Smith then fled but was followed by the victim and another driver who witnessed the incident. Smith stopped in the 600 block of Hamilton and entered a residence.

The name of the victim was not available at presstime.

Police arrested Smith without further incident at the home on Hamilton.

Crankshaw said investigators determined the incident might have been intentional because Smith allegedly made a gesture to the victim after the collision.

Investigators also think Smith might have mistaken the victim for someone else.

Smith was in the county jail with bail set at $20,000 on a count of assault with a deadly weapon.
