Liberty and civilization are not purchased or negotiated but are the harvested fruits from the tree of liberty grown in democratic republics made safe by victorious armed forces commanded by civilian leadership. The United States has sent her best young men into combat — and she never kept anything for herself once victory was secured. That is true giving and sacrifice.
Joseph Stalin, a former seminarian, asked of an emissary sent by the Vatican, "How many divisions has the pope?"
Father Marc Medaer, then the pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Calexico, told my wife and me about how the Nazi army had invaded his native Belgium and how he had sought out the Belgium army for the purpose of enlistment — but it had been annihilated. Later becoming a citizen, Father Marc always displayed the flag of the United States. What chance would the Vatican have had if Nazi Germany or the totalitarian regime of the Soviets had prevailed?
And what of free societies and religions, if the terrorism of evil attacks from unfeeling and unloving suicidal psychopaths — wearing masks of religious piety trying to hijack the peaceful and loving faith of Islam — continues its quantum leaps of evil?
We salute and thank all of you wonderful people who are putting your faith in American leadership on the federal, state and local levels — that you are getting on with your lives, working, contributing, buying, praying and unifying by displaying the 50 stars and 13 stripes of red, white, and blue.
When speaking out against the cruel and evil English kingdom and government, Benjamin Franklin had it correct, "We shall all hang together — or hang separately."
Thank you for showing the flag and for supporting our way of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
