Westmorland councilman to resign Wednesday?

WESTMORLAND — The City Council here will discuss the resignation of Mayor Pro Tem Thomas Marquez during its meeting Wednesday.

City Clerk Sally Traylor told a reporter Marquez told her he would be resigning from the City Council and would be submitting a formal letter of resignation by Wednesday.

She said as of this morning, she had not received Marquez's resignation letter.

Mayor Henry Halcon said the council will announce the open seat and how to apply for the position during the council meeting Wednesday.

He said the council must appoint someone within 30 days or will be forced to conduct a special election.

Marquez was not available for comment this morning.

In other city business, Jack Holt of The Holt Group of El Centro will submit to council a project scope and summary report on South Center Street from Highway 86 to Baughman Road.


The project scope and summary report are for improvements to the street.

The Holt Group provides engineering and planning services to the city.

Holt said, "We are primarily attempting to better transmit the heavy amount of traffic."

If the report is approved by the council it will be distributed to other agencies for review.
