None injured in geothermal plant explosion

CALIPATRIA — A pressurized vessel at a geothermal plant near here exploded and sent debris and chemicals flying.

Calipatria Fire Chief Chris Hall said the vessel mysteriously exploded about 11:30 a.m. Monday, spreading debris and spraying several chemicals.

The Hoch Plant where the explosion occurred is at 7030 Gentry Road.

No one was injured in the explosion and no fires broke out.

Hall said emergency officials stayed at the scene until all employees were accounted for.

He said the company is conducting tests on the areas the chemicals reached.
