The National Fire Protection Association has declared "National Prevention Week" from Oct. 7-13.

As part of the celebration, all Imperial Valley fire departments will host the fifth annual "Fire Prevention Awareness Run."

This activity will consist of a procession of fire apparatus and equipment representing fire agencies through the Imperial Valley.

The run will begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Imperial County Fire Department in Imperial and proceed to each of the Northend elementary schools in participating communities to include cities of Imperial, Seeley Calipatria and Brawley.

The procession will continue Tuesday in the South County with staging at 8:30 a.m. at El Centro Fire Department Station 2 at 900 S. Dogwood Road. South County cities involved include Holtville, Heber, Calexico and El Centro.

The theme for this year's prevention week is "Cover the Bases and Strike Out for Fire." Each agency has contacted its local elementary schools and encouraged the schools to conduct their monthly fire drills while the procession passes through their community.

Participating agencies include the fire departments from Brawley, Calexico, Calipatria, Centinela State Prison, El Centro, Holtville and Imperial County.
