Voice: Academy idea a good one at Brawley High

October 05, 2001

I'd like to share some information with other parents in regard to Brawley Union High School — good news. There is a new and exciting form of teaching; ninth-grade level, that my son is experiencing and it's helped to renew my faith in BUHS.

It involves three outstanding teachers who have formed an academy — a bond between the science, English, and math classes. This forms a sort of "tag-teaming" between the teachers so that the students cannot lag behind in any of those three classes.

I was impressed on back-to-school night with the concept and have since attended a group meeting after school — with the three teachers — to learn more about it. These teachers are to be applauded for their "extra" efforts over and beyond school hours; I've even talked to two of them at home after 6 p.m. (Sometimes it is hard to get return calls from teachers after hours). They encourage and want parent involvement — which is necessary to ensure the child's entrance to college.

Special thanks to Mr. Brown for helping my son before school (7 a.m.) all last week.

Hope this academy idea spreads like a fire!
