SALTON CITY — The body of a Hemet man who had been on a missing person's list since July 3 was found Sunday 60 yards from his pickup.

The man, Trent Evan Ritschel, 52, was on a missing person's list from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

About 2:30 p.m. Sunday, a California State Parks air crew spotted Ritschel's pickup just inside the Imperial County line a mile and a half south of Highway 22.

Ritschel's body was found about 60 yards from his pickup.

County Coroner Investigator Rick Williams said evidence indicates Ritschel, an avid rockhound, was in the Imperial Valley looking for rocks. He had a number of rocks inside his vehicle.

Williams said there were no signs of foul play, adding it appears that Ritschel may have become disoriented, could not find his truck and succumbed to the heat.

Inside his truck were food and water.

The case remains under investigation.
