IMPERIAL — A traffic stop here Saturday led police to a 50-pound marijuana seizure and three arrests.

Imperial police Officer Joe Garibaldi said he stopped a vehicle for a broken windshield at 1:11 a.m. near the intersection of Aten Road and Sandalwood Glen Avenue.

There were three people in the vehicle. The driver was Jesus Quintero Ruiz, 42, of Mexicali. Garibaldi declined to identify the passengers because of the investigation. He did say they were El Centro residents.

Garibaldi said he suspected Quintero of being under the influence and asked him to step outside the vehicle.

Garibaldi said he then noticed Quintero was attempting to conceal an item in his hand. That item reportedly was a small container found to have methamphetamine inside.

Garibaldi said the U.S. Border Patrol was called and a trained dog was used to search for more drugs in the vehicle.

Garibaldi said about 50 pounds of marijuana was found in the bumpers and interior compartments of the car.

Quintero was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a narcotic, transporting a narcotic and importing a narcotic.

Information on what his two companions were arrested for was unavailable this morning.

All three posted bail.

The investigation was ongoing.
