WINTERHAVEN — Four Mexican nationals were arrested by county Sheriff's Office deputies Wednesday near here for suspicion of kidnapping.

Sheriff's officials said the four walked up to a person parked in his pickup on Araz Road north of Interstate 8 about noon. The four had reportedly entered the country illegally.

According to officials, the four allegedly tied up the victim inside the pickup and planned to take his truck, leaving him on the road.

However, the victim talked the four into letting him drive them. He managed to take them to the agricultural inspection area on the interstate west of Winterhaven, where he jumped out of the pickup and contacted an inspector.

Sheriff's officials identified the other two alleged kidnappers as Teresa Esqueda and Mario Rodriguez. More specific information on the two, including whether they remained in custody this morning, was unavailable by presstime.
