50 years ago — Complete remodeling of the Circle Theaters in Brawley is being planned by Fox West Coast Theaters in two months, according to Laverne East, Circle and Brawley Theaters manager. Part of the $2 million facelift program includes improvements at the United Artists Theater in El Centro.

40 years ago — A chilly west wind ushered in autumn in the Imperial Valley. Temperatures dropped to a low of 45 degrees at the Imperial County airport and many Valley families threw on an extra blanket or turned on the heat.

30 years ago — Representatives of six Imperial Valley cities unanimously voted to develop a countywide solid waste disposal program. According to the motion, the cities will pay half and the county will fund the other half of the estimated $746,000 cost.

20 years ago — Unique Low-Rider Auto Club members are busy preparing and shining up their cars, dating from 1954-1970, for the big Oct. 24 car show in Rodriguez Park in Calexico. Some 60 vintage cars will take part in a "hopping" exhibition.
