CALEXICO — "Would you like to donate with that?"

Hundreds of Calexicans and Mexican visitors have donated, contributing to the American Red Cross after paying for their meals at the two Calexico McDonald's restaurants.

While McDonald's across the country and worldwide are collecting for the Red Cross, the owner of the Calexico McDonald's, Tony Gonzales, has added a philanthropic twist.

He took the advice of his daughter Jacquelyn Gonzales and posted on the walls and windows of his two locations the name of each person who has donated at least $1.

At his Imperial Avenue restaurant, the doors, walls and windows are festooned with colorful strips of construction paper bearing each donor's name.

Some of the paper strips are arranged in patterns such as U.S. flags and some adorn the walls of the play area.

Gonzales vowed to raise $2,000 for the Red Cross "if I have to put in myself."

Today is the last day McDonald's throughout the nation will be collecting donations for the Red Cross.
