CALIPATRIA — A 23-year-old Calipatria woman was arrested and booked into county jail under suspicion that her brother was cut during an altercation on Thursday night.

Heather Dawn Hofer, was being held this morning on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Her bail was set at $20,000.

John Baretta is the owner of the Sperry Road house where Hofer and her 30-year-old brother, Vince Hofer, have been staying.

Baretta said Heather Hofer is a "roommate" who "takes care of my kids."

This morning, Baretta explained his version of what happened Thursday night.

He said Heather Hofer allegedly had a few beers and then brandished a knife.

"It looked like she was going to hurt herself," he said.

According to Baretta, Vince Hofer was cut when he tried to take the knife from his sister.

Baretta said Vince Hofer's injury was treated at Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley.

A hospital spokesman said a victim of a knife wound was treated Thursday but the spokesman would not give details about the man's condition.
