JESUS Q. CHAVEZ

Private interment will be in Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego for Jesus Q. Chavez, 86, of Calexico, who died Tuesday in his home.

Mr. Chavez was born June 24, 1915, in Chihuahua, Mexico. He moved to the Imperial Valley at age 6. He graduated from Calexico High School.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1947.

He married the former Patricia Arias in Yuma.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Chavez of Calexico; daughter, Lily Zazueta of El Centro; son, Jess J. Chavez of Spring Valley; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

DORA ALICE BATES

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday in Hems Bros. Mortuary chapel in El Centro for Dora Alice Bates, 86, of Imperial, who died Monday in her home.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Joseph Marrs of Faith Assembly in Imperial officiating.

Mrs. Bates was born March 8, 1915, in Alabama. She married Willie Taff Bates on April 15, 1937, in Alabama.

Mrs. Bates moved to the Valley in 1960. She worked at the Imperial Hotel for many years. She was also a homemaker and made patchwork quilts by hand.

Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Taff Bates on Dec. 6, 1995, daughter Mary Towns, and sons Wit and Leroy Bates.

Survivors include her daughter, Jewell Lang of Imperial, sons, Louis Bates of San Diego and Harvel and J.T. Bates, both of Alabama; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
