Voice: Time to teach the terrorists some lessons

October 16, 2001

Terrorists have been sending us a litany of messages for years, but we've steadfastly refused to listen. They've hijacked aircraft after aircraft; they've bombed so many embassies it's not even surprising when they bomb another. They were responsible for killing American soldiers and responsible for detonating explosives into an American naval vessel.

They have murdered men, women, children and babies — did so willingly, gleefully and will continue their murdering rampages until the little darlings have their tickets punched, once and for all.

On Sept. 11, they sent us a message — their strongest yet; special delivery on four hijacked jetliners, in the process murdering thousands of innocent victims: "We hate you! We will destroy you!"

Had those 19 religious fanatics had weapons of mass destruction in their hands we would not be counting our dead in the thousands: We would be counting our dead in the millions! Think about it for a moment. It is a sobering and disturbing thought.

For much too long we've acted like ostriches — hiding our heads in the sand, waiting for the danger to go away. It has not, nor will not, until the terrorists are dead. It means we must not only kill them, but we must punish the people responsible for aiding and abetting them. We must inflict punishment on them so severely that never again will any country on the face of this earth dare to embark on such a path.

The civilized world sat back on its derrieres and allowed madmen to make the rules for initiating engagement and causing havoc. Now we must play by those rules and show them they have taught us well, for we can be just as ruthless as they are.
