Memorial services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Calexico for Edmundo Esquer- Bareño, 73, of Calexico, who died Oct. 2 in Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. The Rev. Gerardo Fernandez will officiate.

Mr. Esquer-Bareño was born on June 16, 1928, in Calexico.

He joined the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge.

Mr. Esquer-Bareño was a compassionate, loving and sincere and will be missed by many who knew him, according to family.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Victor Manuel and Federico Guillermo.

Survivors include his brother, Jorge Alberto "Beto"; sister, Lita Bareño-Velandia; 12 nieces and nephews and 16 grand-nephews and grand-nieces.



Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday in Frye Chapel & Mortuary in Brawley for Elva Mae Edmondson, 85, of Yucca Valley, who died Tuesday in her home.


Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Frye Chapel & Mortuary in Brawley. The Rev. Michael Lasky of Brawley Assembly of God will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Brawley.

Mrs. Edmondson was born June 4, 1916, in Huntsville, Ark. She was raised in Arkansas and came to the Imperial Valley in the early 1940s. She married James N. "Short" Edmondson.

She lived in the Imperial Valley until 1995, when she moved to Yucca Valley.

Mrs. Edmondson was a member of the Brawley and Yucca Valley Assemblies of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James N. "Short" Edmondson, on Nov. 24, 1968; and brother, John Scates.

Survivors include her daughters, Edna Sharp, Lola Edmondson and Dorothy Campbell, all of Yucca Valley and Irene Campbell of Spring Town, Texas; sons, James L. Edmondson of Santee and Jim Edmondson of Paso Robles; brother, Paul Scates of Yuma; sister, Daisy Workman of Arkansas; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
