Scots pound San Pasqual

WINTERHAVEN — It only took the Vincent Memorial football team 55 minutes to dispose of San Pasqual High as the game was called when Vincent took a 46-0 lead late in the second quarter here Friday.

Games in Arizona leagues, in which San Pasqual plays, are called when the deficit reaches 45 points, which was the case with the Scots when they scored their sixth touchdown of the game, an 88-yard run by Eric Ruiz at the 1-minute, 17-second mark in the second quarter.

Sergio Herrera began the scoring onslaught with a 92-yard punt return 2:18 into the game. Ruiz then ran in the two-point conversion for the Scots.

About 42 seconds later Luis Zidales recovered a San Pasqual fumble and returned it 23 yards for the score. Montaño added the two-point conversion on a quarterback keeper.

Jose Cortez added to the Scots score on the ensuing kickoff, when San Pasqual's return team failed to field the ball and Cortez took it 31 yards for the touchdown. Jose Lopez added the two-point conversion, upping the score to 24-0.

Vincent continued its barrage in the second quarter as Juan Lopez scored a 54-yard touchdown 40 seconds into the frame. Ruiz added another two-point conversion.

Montaño scored the team's fifth touchdown, reaching pay dirt from 32 yards with six minutes to play in the half. Montaño then connected with Jose Lopez for the two-point conversion, giving the Scots a 40-0 lead.

The Scots (5-1) will host Holtville at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Ward Field in Calexico.
