LA JOLLA — The Southwest High volleyball team took second place in the consolation bracket of the Beach City Invitational here with a 5-15, 6-15 loss to Mira Mesa on Saturday.
Southwest kicked off the two-day tournament in pool play Friday, losing 5-15, 1-15 to La Jolla, 8-15, 2-15 to San Dieguito Academy and 2-15, 6-15 to Clairemont.
On Saturday, in tournament play, the Eagles started on the losing end, falling 12-15, 2-15 to Christian.
Southwest came back with four consecutive wins with a 15-9, 15-8 victory over El Camino, a 15-4, 15-3 win over Chula Vista, a 15-9, 6-15, 15-9 win over Christian and a 15-11, 16-4 victory over Clairemont to advance to the consolation championship.
Southwest will next play Palo Verde in Blythe at 6 p.m. Thursday.
