Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Frye Chapel & Mortuary in Brawley for Antonina Baiza-Marquez, 91, of Westmorland, who died Saturday in her home. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m.

Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Westmorland with the Rev. Amador Lopez officiating.

Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Brawley.

Mrs. Marquez was born May 10, 1910, in Downey, moving to the Imperial Valley shortly after her birth. She has lived in the Valley since.


Mrs. Marquez was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She enjoyed tending to her plants and flowers in her garden, cooking, doing needlepoint and spending time with family and friends, according to family.

She was preceded in death by her son, Alex Marquez, in 1979; husband, Benjamin Marquez, in 1981; and granddaughter, Terry Marquez, in 1985.

Survivors include her daughters, Delia Castro and Jenny Cervantes, both of Westmorland, and Elvira Matsui of Carlsbad; sons, Gilbert, Benjamin, Richard and Rumaldo Marquez, all of Westmorland, and Henry Marquez of Los Banos; brother, Philip Mendez of Yuma; sisters, Lupe Mendez of Watsonville and Emily Mendez of Redding; and 26 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
