BRAWLEY — Police here were expected to seek a murder charge today against an 18-year-old man arrested in connection with the shooting death of his father Saturday.

The Imperial County District Attorney's Office will review the case submitted by police and decide whether to file a murder charge. A determination will be made today.

Brawley resident Frank Hale was arrested Saturday for allegedly shooting his father, Charles Hale, 59, during a family argument at their home on the 300 block of Driftwood Place.

According to police, Charles Hale and his wife, Sandra Hale, were pretending to fight, but at some point Sandra kicked her husband, leading to an argument.

As the two fought, police have alleged, Frank Hale came out of his bedroom and joined the fracas, returning to his bedroom to retrieve a gun.

It is alleged by police he then shot his father three times, twice in the upper right chest and shoulder area and once in the back of the neck.

Frank Hale has been in custody since the shooting. He was arrested at the residence. Police said he did not attempt to flee the scene.

He is being held in county jail with his bail set at $1 million.
