Voice: Vietnam statistics wrong, sentiment right

October 23, 2001

In my zeal to show the injustice of inequality, I got my statistics mixed up with another report. It was 24 percent black and 16 percent Hispanic of the 58,000 Americans killed in Vietnam. My bad!

But still, that is 120 percent black overkill and 300 percent Hispanic overkill in comparison to the national population of the time. Hey, now I can run for public office.

Today the national consensus is we were wrong (as in mistaken) in Vietnam. This is why the people of our country nervously worry so much that we will never ever again get ourselves involved in foreign civil/political strife.

You know, this type of war is much like Hank Williams' song, "Mind your own business. Me and my sweet lady have a license to fight."
