Voice: Tracey has shown he will be a fine choice for El Centro

October 24, 2001

All politics is local. El Centro City Council and their City Manager Abdel Salem have made another — one being the earlier employment of Oscar Rodriquez away from the City of Calexico — smart hire in picking Marty Tracey for their new boss of parks and recreation.

Tracey brings a resume of having worked in geothermal as a pipe fitter — coupled with a rolled up sleeves and dirt under the fingernails approach to work — and will treat city of El Centro maintenance personnel with kindness and respect.

His ability to listen to all sides of issues and make informed decisions based upon research speak to the training he received at local law firms known for their professionalism and absolute dedication to their clients.

Tracey graduated with the highest of academic honors from San Diego State, Calexico — successfully defended his ideals and values before liberal and elitist faculty unfamiliar with his blue-collar upbringing — and he earned the respect of the ivory tower of academia.

The Imperial Valley Food Bank benefited greatly under Tracey's leadership — he worked under management taken off the ivory tower — and he was smooth, diplomatic and productive to a wonderful cause of feeding the hungry.

El Centro parks and recreation will improve under Tracey's vision and guidance — especially if Marty can cobble together a budget that will meet the recreation needs of Valley kids — and he will spend taxpayer money wisely.
