Voice: Pilot club grateful for support

October 24, 2001

Pilot Club of El Centro is an international service organization that was chartered in March 1960. In 1960 service organizations had to put a cap on membership because there were so many willing volunteers.

Service organizations now have to struggle to maintain enough members willing to give time from their very busy personal and business lives. These clubs serve their commentates in various ways, from hands-on volunteers visiting and/or sending flowers to elderly shut-ins to financial help such as school scholarships and sponsoring athletic teams.

Craft fairs, raffle ticket sales, bake and rummage sales were the basic fund raisers.

In January 1984 the Pilot Club of El Centro organized Thursday night bingo in El Centro. Bingo profits may only be used for charitable causes. The only bingo money allowed the club is to be spent on direct bingo expenses. From these profits the Pilot Club of El Centro donates a substantial amount of money to the various charities and needy of Imperial Valley.

Pilot Club of El Centro would like to thank all of our bingo players who support us each Thursday at the Ryerson Youth Center (PAL's) located at 1100 N. 4th St. in El Centro.

While you are enjoying an evening of socializing and playing bingo with us, we would like to let you know which charities and organizations are receiving donations. Without your support none of this would be possible, so again, thank you bingo players. Remember all bingo proceeds are spent to help our local youth, the elderly, Alzheimer's Memory Walk, American Diabetes Association, Association for Retarded Citizens, Boy Scouts of America, California Highway Patrol/Gold Cross-stuffed animal program, Catholic Community Services, American Cancer Society, Child Abuse Prevention Council, Children's Fair, De Anza Search & Rescue, El Centro Babe Ruth, Imperial Valley Girls Softball League, El Centro Little League, Elks children's Christmas party, Girl Scouts of America, Humane Society, Imperial Valley Food Bank, Imperial Valley Manor, Imperial Valley Blind Center, Betty Jo McNeece Receiving Home, Lulu Belle Memorial Animal Haven, Muscular Dystrophy Association, New Creations, all Imperial Valley PAL groups, Pilot International-brain illness, The Salvation Army, snowbird breakfast, SURE Helpline, Center for Family Solutions, Care, Project Hope, Freedom from Hunger, Compassion, Scholarships Vial of Life project, Pioneers' Museum/veterans gallery.
