Thank You: Band directors, other educators doing wonderful work in Imperial

October 25, 2001

After seeing the Imperial band perform in Poway on Oct. 6, I had the overwhelming desire to write to you and praise the band director, Mr. T.J. Hepburn. I see both Mr. Hepburn's and Mr. Brooke Kofford's cars in the band room parking lot from early in the morning (6:30 a.m.) to late in the evening (as late as 9 p.m.). It is incredible what both directors are able to create with such a small number of students and such limited financial resources. Wow! And, kudos to both of you!

While I am praising the pride of Imperial directors, I will also praise other Imperial educators. On Oct. 16, the high school geometry teachers held a meeting for parents. It was incredible! The teachers transformed the old gym into a learning environment with tables, chairs, a chalkboard and a power point presentation. The meeting lasted two hours and closed with door prizes. This is indeed above and beyond the call of duty.

I must say that, in eight years of having my children in the Imperial school system, I have been impressed time and again. I humbly thank all of the Imperial educators for your generosity.

From the band directors to the math teachers to the teachers who volunteer to coach athletics, I thank you on my family's behalf and on behalf of all the other families whose lives you touch. You have created an inspiring and rewarding learning environment for students.
