Police discover methamphetamine in car during traffic stop

El Centro police found a small amount of methamphetamine inside the car of a 27-year-old man after pulling him over for a minor traffic violation on Wednesday.

El Centro police Officer Efren Coronel said at 9:43 a.m. an officer pulled over El Centro resident Marcelo Lopez in the 700 block of Aurora Drive for a minor traffic violation.

The officer conducted a background check and determined Lopez was reportedly driving with a suspended license.

The officer, who thought Lopez was acting suspiciously, then searched Lopez's vehicle and reportedly found a small amount of methamphetamine in the center console.

Lopez was arrested on suspicion of driving with a suspended license and on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance.

He was booked into the county jail with his bail set at $10,000.
