Calexico Recreation Department hosting Halloween Carnival

October 26, 2001

The Calexico Recreation Department will sponsor a Halloween carnival at the Dool Avenue Community Center on Saturday.

The event will start at 10 a.m. and will feature contests for kids, among them a costume contest and a "great pumpkin" search.

In addition, there will be treats, free balloons and face painting.

Organizers also will have a Dino Jump available for kids. For those without 5-year-olds, a Dino Jump is a big, inflatable mosh pit for kids that is shaped like a dinosaur.

Oooo, scary.

The Halloween shebang starts at 10 a.m. with relays and games. At 10:30 a.m. kids will have a chance to scour the community center's park for the "great pumpkin."

The search is sort of like an Easter Egg hunt, said Recreation Director Carmen Maldonado.

She said there will be 6,000 black and orange eggs scattered about. The winner will receive the "great pumpkin" prize.

At 11 a.m. kids will have a chance to play carnival games and win more prizes.

At 11:30 a.m. the kids sporting the most original costumes will win prizes.
