Spartans win final IVL meet

HOLTVILLE — The Central Union High girls golf team wrapped up the Imperial Valley League title with a win at the final IVL meet of the year at the Barbara Worth Golf Resort near here Thursday.

Central finished first, shooting a combined team score of 491, followed by Brawley Union High with a 535 and Palo Verde with a 569. Southwest took fourth, shooting a 590 and Holtville rounded things out but did not have a team score because it was unable to field a complete squad.

Leading Central to victory was Clarissa Maldonado, shooting a 116, followed by Stephanie Schuler with a 123 and Claudia Maldonado with a 125. Hyin Kim shot a 127 to round out the scoring for the Spartans.

Leading Brawley was Erica Smith with a 117, followed by Alissa Koon's 120. Amanda Carrillo shot a 142 and Lori Ridgeway, 156.


Palo Verde's Lauren Ray was the medalist for the day with 107.

For Southwest, it was Corey Huerta turning in a 142, followed by Cathy Aguilar and Kristine Strahm, both with 149s, and Courtney Mouser with a 150.

Rounding things out were Holtville's Christina Croak, shooting a 118, Chastity Sanden with a 123 and C.C. Wells with a 132.

All teams will compete in the CIF individual qualifier in Borrego Springs starting at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
