50 years ago — All duck hunters were barred from the rice fields in Imperial Valley to stop the deliberate destruction of thousands of dollars of rice, irrigation ditches and borders. Complaints charging trespassing were signed against 29 duck hunters.

40 years ago — Deral Houchin invited all model plane owners to participate in the Imperial Valley Flying Bandits model plane meet. The meet will be held at the A Street ball park in Brawley. Trophies will be awarded.

30 years ago — Tickets for the 15th annual Cattle Call Rodeo Nov. 6 and Nov. 7 are now on sale in the Planters Hotel lobby in Brawley.

20 years ago — A Holtville man has been convicted in Superior Court of felony charges involving sales of marijuana to an undercover officer and furnishing marijuana to minors. Gary Wayne Garcia, 32, is facing a maximum penalty of five years-plus in state prison after a jury today convicted the Holtville man of one count furnishing marijuana to minors and three counts of sales.
