I am writing in response to a letter written by Betsy Enders published in the "Letters to the sports editor" section. Ms. Enders was critical of Eric Galvan's reporting on Matt Taylor's "Athlete of the Week" profile.
Matt Taylor made inappropriate remarks, which he has since sincerely apologized for. He made a mistake and took full responsibility for it.
Is it really the responsibility of Eric Galvan to censor the comments made by athletes? Is it the job of the Imperial Valley Press to serve as the public relations department for our local athletes? Ms. Enders will have you believe that it is a newspaper reporter's job to edit or censor an athlete's comments for inappropriate statements. A reporter's job is to report the facts, and that's exactly what Eric Galvan did.
Eric, keep up the good work and remember always to "Call it like you see it."
