October 29, 2001|STAFF REPORT

Government Agencies Federal Credit Union Board of Directors and staff have been named recipients of the Credit Union National Association Mutual Group's 12th annual Roy F. Bergengren award for high achievement.

The award was presented Oct. 16 at the California Credit Union League's annual meeting and convention in Anaheim. Beverly Dawson, president and chief executive officer of GAFCU, accepted the award on behalf of the board of directors and her staff.

"We are honored to receive such a prestigious award for our contributions to the people of Imperial Valley," Dawson said as she accepted the award.

The award has been given to individuals and credit unions since 1990. It recognizes their commitment to the self-help ideals and philosophy embraced by Roy F. Bergengren (1879-1955), a pioneer in the credit union movement. Kevin Kindschi, GAFCU's CUNA Mutual representative, nominated GAFCU for this award. Once nominated, it competed against credit unions throughout the nation.
