Voice: Tio Daniel Santillan doing his duty as an American

October 30, 2001

This letter is also a response to Mr. Tapia's letter from Oct. 21 that says that my uncle, Mr. Daniel Santillan, "needs to shut your mouth before you start something and it gets you in trouble."

Well, Mr. Tapia, as his niece, my Tio Danny doesn't need your love and support. He has plenty of family in the Imperial Valley and throughout California to give him the love and support he needs.

He wasn't raised by his parents for most of his life. He was raised by his grandparents, who came from Mexico to start a better life for their family. He was taught to speak up for what he believes and to help those who don't have the courage that he has to write letters to the editor. Yes, this sometimes gets him in trouble, but he's still around and won't stop writing.

You missed the point of all of his letters. Maybe you should read between the lines and figure out what he's really trying to say. He has that right as an American citizen. If you don't want to read the hate or the facts that he has to write about, then don't read them! You have that right, too!

Remember the people in Afghanistan who don't have that right!
