Voice: New housing commissioners not acting as public led to believe they would

October 31, 2001

This letter is addressed to the two newly elected commissioners of the Calexico Housing Authority. When we heard of your nomination to the housing commission and after hearing your background and your experience on other boards, we honestly believed that we were going to be getting fair and honest citizens to represent the council of the city of Calexico.

We are very saddened by the behavior and the representation of these two commissioners during the past three to four meetings. First we thought it was because you were not familiar with what was happening and you needed additional information.

Needless to say, your behavior at Sept. 27's board of commissioners meeting was uncalled for. If you really had the capacity, maturity and experience you all claim you have, you would have not ignored the present situation of the Housing Authority. How dare you tell us that we have no right to communicate and to let the mayor and the rest of the City Council know what continues to happen with the present administration of this authority?

If you were as knowledgeable as you claim you both are, why are you depriving us of our freedom of speech. I guess you are not aware of the Constitution of the United States, which grants us that right as well as to express ourselves both orally and in writing.

What you failed to do was analyze the situation and talk to those who are being oppressed by this administration. You said you had no personal agendas and that you were not carrying any axes, but as both of you may recall prior to your nomination or the day of your nomination you did have a bone to pick with the present director of this administration. At least we thought we had honest and sincere citizens who were going to look to the best interest of our community. It is sad to say that you have joined the group of leadership of puppets that Mr. Romo created some time ago.

Perhaps if you would bother to sit down and read HUD's policies and procedures and the code of federal regulations, which mandates the authority's and the administration's actions you would not continue asking meeting after meeting what is allowed or not allowed by HUD.
