50 years ago — It's goblin time among members of the youngest set. Parties and movies were set up by harried parents to keep some of the kiddies from doing much damage to themselves and the countryside.

40 years ago — A pre-dawn raid by lawmen ended in the arrest of 12 suspected narcotics peddlers in four Imperial Valley cities and Coachella. It was the biggest narcotics roundup since 1955 when 15 suspected peddlers were nabbed.

30 years ago — A legal battle over farm worker unionization continues, although an Assembly subcommittee killed the last surviving bill on the subject.

20 years ago — The roping artistry of the Flying Lariats will be on display during the three performances of the 25th anniversary of Cattle Call Rodeo at 2 and 7 p.m. Nov. 7, and at 2 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Brawley arena. The lariats along with rodeo clown Jesse Franks, the Cattle Call queen and princesses will be making appearances throughout next week at Valley schools and service clubs.
