BRAWLEY — A 23-year-old man was arrested this morning after he was found passed out from intoxication while caring for his 1-year-old daughter.

Brawley police Sgt. Perry Monita said police dispatchers received a call about 1 a.m. regarding a man passed out at the 1100 block of G Street with a child nearby.

Monita said when police arrived they found Jason Yazzie intoxicated to the point where he was incoherent. A woman, whose identity was not available, was also at the scene holding the child.

Police arrested Yazzie for being drunk in public and neglect of a child.

Investigators think Yazzie earlier went to a relative's house to pick up his daughter

Yazzie is living in San Diego, where is serving in the Marine Corps. His daughter's mother has relatives in Brawley but police aren't sure if she's living in the city.

Yazzie was being held in county jail today with bail set at $35,000.
