An El Centro man apparently thought better of it and turned himself into El Centro police after allegedly leaving the scene of a hit-and-run accident Friday afternoon.

Thomas Eugene Humphreys, 42, was allegedly involved in an accident in which another person's vehicle reportedly ended up against a metal pole.

Information on how the accident transpired was not available.

El Centro police Sgt. Mike Crankshaw said Humphreys was arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene of the accident in the 1100 block of Fourth Street, and for allegedly driving on a suspended license.

Crankshaw said a police investigator responded to the 2:30 p.m. accident and eventually found the vehicle Humphreys was allegedly driving. The investigator contacted Humphreys' family, and Humphreys allegedly denied any involvement, Crankshaw added.

Later that day Humphreys turned himself in, Crankshaw said, adding the other driver sustained only minor injuries.

Humphreys was arrested and his bail was set at $25,000.
