BORREGO SPRINGS — The Imperial Valley League held its golf finals at the Borrego Springs golf course here Thursday with Brawley Union High's Erica Smith setting a league record, shooting a 95 on the 18-hole course.
Taking second was Brawley's Alissa Koon with a 98 followed by Palo Verde's Lauren Ray with a 102 and Central Union High's Clarissa Maldonado in fourth with a 103. Central's Stephanie Schuler shot a 117 to finish fifth followed by teammate Claudia Maldonado with a 119.
The IVL final was originally set as a CIF San Diego Section post-season qualifier, but because of rule changes it was not. Instead, the IVL coaches used the final to select the leagues all-first and second teams.
The top six finishers were named to the first team with the next six earning spots on the second team.
Ray, however, was medalist in all regular season IVL meets and was selected to compete in CIF and was named league MVP.
