Pioneers acquires new scanner

November 05, 2001|STAFF REPORT

The Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District announced the acquisition of its new Toshiba Asteion Multislice Helical CT Scanner and Marconi AXIS2 Nuclear Medicine Imaging Machine.

The Asteion Multislice CT scanner is one of the fastest scanners available today. This technology makes shorter and more accurate examinations than ever before. It takes only 20 seconds to rotate around the body and scan the entire abdomen and pelvis. Using the technology called multislice imaging, it provides thinner slice images and assembles those images by computer for clearer, sharper, 3-D views of anatomical structures such as aneurysms, tumors and infections.

"We expect the Asteion Multislice CT scanner to open doors for new types of exams. In the past, for example, patients could not hold their breath long enough to perform many detailed CT lung scans. But the speed of the new Asteion CT scanner makes these and other exams possible for the first time," a press release from Pioneers district states.

The Marconi AXIS2 nuclear medicine imaging machine has dual head cameras which allow for the capture of two sets of images at the same time, thereby reducing the examination time by 50 percent. The larger field of view allows imaging of a much bigger area with better image quality and sensibility.

This state-of-the-art technology now available at Pioneers Memorial Hospital enables the district to continue providing the best possible health care for the Imperial Valley.
