Mighty bulldog band places in review

The Mighty Bulldog Marching Band of Calexico High School recently participated in the 31st Annual Chino Invitational Band Review.

Twenty-eight bands in four divisions from Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Imperial counties participated Saturday.

In its division, the Mighty Bulldog Marching Band placed second, the drill team and the shield line placed third. Calexico was one of only three schools in the entire band review to have units place in all three categories of parade competition. Emma Servin was the drum major, Paulina Arizaga was the shield captain, Ruby Salgado, Danielle Moreno and Jenny Jiminez were drill team captains.

The Chino Invitational Band Review is one of three major band reviews on the circuit sponsored by the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association.

The Calexico High School band will be joining bands from Brawley Union, Imperial, Holtville, Central and Southwest high schools Nov. 14 at Cal Jones Field in El Centro for the annual Halftime Show Festival.

Central Spartan Band Director Renee Baker and the Spartan Band Boosters host the event. The halftime show starts at 6 p.m. and is sponsored by the Imperial Valley Music Educators Association. Tickets are $1 and are available from local school bands or at the gate.
