IID stages first of three 2002 budget workshops

November 06, 2001|By RUDY YNIGUEZ, Staff writer

The Imperial Irrigation District held the first of three public workshops to introduce next year's budgets.

Monday's workshop covered the district's so-called joint departments, that is, those departments that serve the whole district, including water and power. They are general services, executive, resources planning and management, internal audit, finance and treasury, human resources, information technology and public information.

Included in the information was each department's expenditures and the percentage of those expenditures paid for by the power and water departments.

For example, $9.9 million is budgeted for the executive department for 2002. That amount includes:

· $618,500 for the Board of Directors

· $814,700 for the general manager's office

· $703,900 for the executive officer's office

· $672,700 for the chief financial officer/controller office

· $6.8 million for the resources planning and management office

· $233,300 for the internal auditor's office.

The water department is set to pay 42.6 percent of the CFO/controller budget and 98.2 percent of the resources planning and management budget. Power would pay 57.4 and 1.8 percent, respectively. The remaining items are mostly shared equally between water and power.

The presentation to the board was made by CFO/Controller Kris Fontaine, who said the overall revenue and expenditure numbers, including sources of revenues, will be available at the next workshop on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Division 4 Director Stella Mendoza asked that the budget include each director's budget.

"I would like to see it individually for each director," she said.

Board President Andy Horne said the information has not been finalized but will be included and will have such data as travel and training costs.

Thursday's workshop is at 5 p.m. in the district's William R. Condit Auditorium, and will cover the water department.

The power department's budget will be presented at 5 p.m. Nov. 13, also in the auditorium.
