Imperial FFA members place in ceremonies contest

Imperial FFA members competed in the Imperial section opening and closing ceremonies contest recently at Brawley Union High School.

The Oct. 18 contest consisted of three divisions: novice, open and advanced. Teams consist of six members who represent the six constitutional officers of a chapter: president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, reporter and sentinel opening and closing a mock FFA meeting.

The novice division is opened to first-year freshmen and sophomore students in FFA. Imperial's team consisted of president Laura Archuleta; vice president Mario Zairdo; secretary Georgina Garcia; treasurer Abraham Vandiver; reporter Dana Campbell; and sentinel Breeana Beltran and Jacob Jones.

The novice team placed first in the contest with Archuleta and Campbell winning the best officer position for the respective office.

Imperial FFA had two teams in the open division. Members competing in this division consist of FFA students who are not first-year members or are not of the chapter's six constitutionally elected officers. Imperial's A team placed first and consisted of president Jovana Valenzuela; vice president Jose Felix; secretary Alysia Walther; treasurer Brooke McGee; reporter Phyllis Schaffter; and sentinel Connie Siedel. Valenzuela, Walther and McGee won best officer position for the respective office.

Imperial's B team, which placed third, consisted of president Sonovie Brisco; vice president Jenny Queen; secretary Zaira Alacorn; treasurer Erick Saldana; reporter Roy Wheeler; and sentinel Hugo Zamora.

The advanced division is for a chapter's six constitutionally elected officers. Imperial placed second in this contest with its team consisting of: president Stacey Masters; vice president Julie Browning; secretary Amanda Jones; treasurer Crystal Sidhu; reporter Franchesca Perez; and sentinel Tommy Dale.

Teams from each of the eight chapters of the Imperial section competed in at least one division if not all. The Imperial section consists of the high schools in the Valley area that have FFA chapters: Blythe, Brawley, Calexico, Calipatria, Southwest, Holtville, Imperial and Holtville.
