Arabs fall to Barstow

November 10, 2001

EL CAJON — Coming off a season-opening win Friday, the Imperial Valley College men's basketball team dropped to 1-1 on the season with a 90-65 loss to Barstow College in the Cuyamaca Tournament here Saturday.

Leading IVC in the loss was Brandon Warner with 11 points.

"We played good defense in the first half, but Barstow is just a good team. They killed us on the boards," said Arab coach Nick Gehler. "But the way you can look at this is that it's better that this happens now than 10 games from now.

"Even though we did lose, we did a lot of good things today. And we can just learn from this," said Gehler. "Overall I felt pretty good about how we played in this tournament. You're never happy with a big loss like this, but we got a lot accomplished here."

IVC will next play at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
