>>50 years ago — Movie starlet Joan Valerie has paid a visit to the Valley, spending most of her time enjoying the sun, relaxing around the pool at Ullman Apartments in El Centro. Miss Valerie, who has appeared in "Roaring City" and "The Girl in White," is under contract with GM.

>>40 years ago — The Danny Thomas Benefit Dance & Show, featuring Murray McEckron's orchestra and singer Ann Margaret, will be presented by parishioners of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Dec. 9 at the Barbara Worth Hotel in El Centro.

>>30 years ago — Raymond Bailey was reappointed Tuesday by the county Board of Supervisors to a new four-year term to the Central Valley Cemetery District as controversy continued to swirl about the care of Holtville's Terrace Park Cemetery.

>>20 years ago — The public and private sectors joined hands Monday to help fix El Centro. City and Bank of America officials signed an agreement that will make available at least $220,000 in federally subsidized low-interest loans to El Centro homeowners for residential rehabilitation and restoration.
