WESTMORLAND — The City Council here, sitting as the city Redevelopment Agency board, will vote on a disposition and development agreement that would sell property for $1 to a development company to build a 50-room motel.

The council will decide whether to sell property on the Northeast corner of Highway 86 and H Street to High Spirits LP to develop a motel that would bring in needed tax revenue to the city.

High Spirits LP is owned by Dr. Veerinder Anand of El Centro and Rick Desai of Las Vegas.

The project will cost $2.5 million.

Mike Gaston of The Holt Group of El Centro said the $1 sale is to give the developer an incentive to build the motel in the city. The Holt Group offers planning and engineering services to the city.

The property was purchased from Clark Seybert by the RDA for $42,000

Also during the RDA meeting, the board will decide whether to sell property on the Southwest corner of Third and G streets for $1 for the development of a residential drug-treatment facility for women.

The property belongs to Steve Dickerson, although the RDA has made him an offer of $165,000. Gaston said Dickerson agreed verbally to the sale.

If the RDA acquires the property it will sell it to Alternative Program Inc. of Bakersfield for $1 to develop the women's facility.

The RDA meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. following the city Planning Commission meeting at 6 p.m. The regular council meeting will start at 7 p.m.
