A vehicle traveling south on a busy county road west of El Centro on Monday hit two vehicles stopped at an intersection, causing several injuries.

The collision occurred about 7 a.m. on Forrester Road and Evan Hewes Highway.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Karina Jordan, 23, of Beaumont was driving her car south on Forrester at 55 mph.

As she approached Evan Hewes she started to reduce her speed but she was unable to stop in time to avoid the collision, the press release states.

Her vehicle collided with a car driven by Leonel G. Calderon, 35, of Fullerton. Calderon's car was then thrust into a car driven by Olivia Tiznado, 58, of Calexico.

There were three people in Jordan's car — Luis Estrada, 18, who complained of back pain and was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center, Guadalupe Estrada, 49, who suffered a scalp laceration and was taken to El Centro Regional, and a 1-month-old girl, who was not injured.

Everyone in Jordan's vehicle resides in Beaumont. Jordan was not injured.

Calderon had one passenger in his car — an 11-year-old Mexicali girl who suffered cuts. She was treated at the scene.

Calderon suffered minor injuries but opted to seek his own medical attention.

Tiznado, who was not injured, had two passengers — Elena Tiznado, 36, of Mexicali and Olivia Tiznado, 30, of Calexico. Neither was injured.

All those involved in the accident were wearing seat belts.

The Highway Patrol states that officers examined Jordan's brakes and found them to be in working condition.

The case remains under investigation. No arrests or citations had been issued as of this morning.
