Voice: Give thanks for all we have to God on Thanksgiving

November 21, 2001

Thanksgiving Day was set by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1939. It was approved by Congress in 1941 as the fourth Thursday in November.

Since then we have been celebrating it as a day out of the year set aside to give thanks to God.

After the tragedies that happened in this country since Sept. 11, we may find it hard or impossible to be thankful this holiday season.

We may have even gone through some personal tragedies in our life so that we may find it impossible to have a thankful heart or attitude toward God. Our hearts may be hardened or cold toward God because of our own problems that we may be facing.

Despite our own problems, tragedies or trials, we all must learn to have a thankful heart to God on a daily basis. Every day we can give thanks to God. For example, when we receive our mail, we can thank God for the individual who delivered it safely to our mailbox. We can thank Him for the many people who help and serve us at the stores, businesses, schools, etc.

This Thanksgiving Day we can thank God for the roof over our head, our family and loved ones, friends and for supplying our daily needs.

Lastly and most importantly, let us not forget to thanks for Jesus who died on the cross for our sins.

As we gather with loved ones this day let us not forget that, "In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you (I Thessalonians 5:18)."
