>>50 years ago — Jack Maljan, 25, of El Centro, son of the late produce man King Maljan, was reported in satisfactory condition today after he was pulled from the Brawley Main Canal. Maljan's car had gone out of control and plunged into the canal.

>>40 years ago — A plan for an "air-conditioned sidewalk" on the north and south sides of the 500 block of Main Street in El Centro was presented to merchants Monday night. "It's feasible," the merchants were told by Richard R. Lott, a representative from an air- conditioning firm here.

>>30 years ago — The Thanksgiving holidays brought desert lovers from all around to the Imperial Valley for four days of beautiful weather and hundreds of square miles of sand dunes. Thousands of campers, trailers, tents, motor homes and even a teepee dotted the landscape near Glamis, 25 miles east of Brawley.

>>20 years ago — Windows in six downtown Brawley stores and a number of vehicles parked on the city streets this morning were reported as broken out or having holes in them, according to Brawley police. Wanton gunfire is blamed for the vandalism and the incident is being investigated by officers today.
